The principle of these is the same as real-life dating agencies. You register your personal details and describe what you are looking for in a partner. Lots of other people do the same thing and the dating agency tries to match up similar people. With online dating agencies all of this takes place via the web site of the agency.

You need to register with the web site and then fill in some quite detailed forms about yourself. This includes everything from your physical characteristics to your hobbies and interest. You may also include photographs. All of these profiles can then be viewed online by everyone else that belongs to the agency.

Contact can be made fairly anonymously to start with perhaps through email messages. You can then develop the relationship through to meeting up in real life if you want to.

It is worth noting that online dating agencies do charge a fee for this service and that you would need to exercise a sensible and cautious approach as you might with any other situation where you are meeting people you don’t know.
