The internet is so massive that there are millions of web sites available on it catering to every possible taste and speciality interest. So if your particular interest is yew trees in church yards, you can find loads of information about them and even people who share your interest.

In the early days of the internet many people thought it would become the domain for the young and technically minded. However, this has not proved to be the case and the over 50s and particularly well catered for in terms of useful web sites.
For example, you can find out your tax position or your pension entitlement, book holidays specifically over the over 50s, investigate health issues or even get involved with online dating.

There are also many online communities where you can meet like-minded people. This might be based around a hobby such as gardening or genealogy or might just be general interest web sites for more mature web users or ‘silver-surfers’.

You may also come across ‘portal’ web sites. These are web sites that are set up to provide lots of links to other web sites. There are many of these targeted at the over 50s. What this means is that they will list loads of web sites that might be of interest to you to save you having to do the searching.
